Ruby Red Winter Manicure!

After winning this cute-as-heck MUM-UR-FABY-LOUS nail lacquer gift set from a Temporary Princess Instagram Giveaway, I just couldn't wait to try out the stunning deep red shade, Promise On The Bridge Of Sighs. What an interesting shade name, right? Bridge Of Spies is a Tom Hanks movie, so I don't know if it's a play on that? Anyhoo, lets talk about this gorgeous shade.

Promise On The Bridge Of Sighs is a sexy ruby red with a slight shimmer, that's rich and perfect for Autumn and Winter. This reminds me of a fine glass of red wine; I just want to watch movies with hubby next to a cozy fireplace with a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon and a gourmet cheeseboard. I don't actually have a fireplace, but let a bitch dream. Haha.

This is two coats of Promise On The Bridge Of Sighs, followed by one of the Faby Top Coat.

Warm Up With Maggie Beer Soups*

As we head towards Winter, the days are getting chillier, rain is falling from the heavens and my general mood could be described as 'grumpy'. I'm a bit over driving in the rain, walking to school in the rain, and most of all, sitting in the damn rain for an hour at my son's weekly soccer training.

Thank god for coffee, afternoon visits from the neighbourhood's friendliest cat, Panda, and soup! Foodland have been marking down the Campbells Country Ladle soups lately, so I've been stocking up on Rich and Creamy Pumpkin and Creamy Chicken. However, even I get sick of the same old soups after a while, which I why I happily accepted the offer to trial a couple of Maggie Beer soups, Spiced Lamb and Tomato*, and Minestrone*. Spiced Lamb and Tomato is a welcome addition to the already established range of soups, which includes the flavours Pea & Ham, Lamb & Lentil, Minestrone and Sweet Potato, Pear & Ginger. Unfortunately I wasn't sent the other newbie to the range, Kale, Chickpea & Apple, which sounds interesting and would have been great to try. If you're interested in reading more about the Maggie Beer soup range, you can read my review of three other flavours here.

Directions: So easy! Just rip off the top of the packet, microwave for 3 minutes, stirring at the halfway point. Or you could heat it up on the stove-top, but who can be stuffed with that?

Spiced Lamb & Tomato Soup*

"With the tradition of a country cook's repertoire, this soup is thick with ripe tomato and spices, with the satisfying addition of perfectly cooked lamb."

Both hubby and I enjoyed this delicious soup. You can tell from the rich brown colour of the liquid that the soup is bursting with flavour, and this translates when put to the taste test. The liquid itself has a robust, well-developed flavour and the chunky vegetables really make this a meal in itself. The lamb is tender and juicy, and altogether the components of this thick soup combine to make a delicious, heart-warming meal. A firm favourite!

Minestrone Soup*

"With a strong nod to its mediterranean inspiration, this minestrone soup is thick with fresh vegetables and herbs with the addition of hearty cannellini beans."

This tastes so healthy, like you're eating two day's worth of vegetables in the one sitting! The liquid component is thinner and the flavour's not quite as robust as the Spiced Lamb & Tomato soup, but it's really packed full of vegetables. Unfortunately I'm not the biggest fan of cannellini beans, but I appreciate the generous mix of ingredients included in this one. I'd go for this one, with it's thinner consistency as an Entree to a main meal, and (on another occasion) use the Spiced Lamb & Tomato as a lazy Winter meal on its own.

Lunch Series: Bread And Bone Wood Grill

For the last few months I've been going into the city once a week (during school hours, because I like to live on the edge!), indulging in a spot of shopping, maybe an hour of blog writing in a quiet cafe, and inevitably, meeting the husband for lunch. We started off slumming it at various food courts, but now we've upped our game, and decided to scout out some cool places to catch a bite in the busy lunch hour period. So I'm starting this little Lunch Series to share with you food pics and our experience of the places we've dined at around our fair and churchy city of Adelaide!

Bread And Bone Wood Grill
15 Peel Street
Adelaide

I hadn't heard of this one, but apparently Peel Street (off Hindley Street) is quite a cool little food district. When you enter, you turn left and head up the stairs, to a trendy-looking eatery with about six long benches. We got there about 12:10pm and it was quite empty (yay!), but by the time we left it was well and truly packed! Hubby and I were seated on one end of a long bench; there was a couple at the other end but we were separated by condiments, including green and red hot sauce bottles, so it was still somewhat private. They also have a number of small, round two-seater tables on the side.

Drinks: Coke Zero's all round. They come with a slice of lemon and I quickly plopped mine into hubby's glass as I like my Coke pure, just as Lindsay Lohan likes hers.

Food: I had the Chicken Burger (fried chicken, guacamole, smoked bacon, cheese, iceberg, kewpie) from the spicy section of the menu and holy crap, was it spicy?! (Yes, the answer is yes). Super-delicious, though, and I am a bit fussy when it comes to burgers. There was a generous amount of sauce in the burger, unlike those dry-arse Maccas ones, and the crispy chicken was really yummy. Hubby said his B&B Burger (beef, smoked bacon, cheese, tomato, lettuce, caramelised onion, pickle, sauce, kewpie) was really good, too. All the burgers come with fries on the side; they were good, not brilliant, but nothing wrong with them either. We also ordered a serve of Onion Rings to share, which came with a tomato sauce. It was quite a small bowl, but taste-wise, we both thought they were great. If there are Onion Rings on the menu, it's a fucking no-brainer, I am ordering it. #Addicted

Fun Fact: Kewpie is a Japanese mayonnaise that's smoother, creamier, richer and more flavoursome than usual mayonnaise. It's made with rice vinegar instead of distilled vinegar.

Ambience: Quiet just after 12 noon, then loud and busy towards 1:00pm. I think we left exactly at the right time, as I hate crowded places. I quite liked the interior and the set-up. The staff were friendly and capable, although I will mention the girl who rang up our bill had not tried the red and green hot sauces on the tables when we asked which was meant to be hotter. Sorry, but if you work at an eatery, you probably should try the sauces, you will get asked about them. Just my opinion!

I would definitely return and try different menu items in the future!

I Made A YouTube Video: Chi Chi Haul!

OMG, you guys. Once a year, I decide I'm Martin Scorsese, and that I can star in, direct and produce an award-winning piece of cinema. So I watch countless YouTube videos on how to actually make a YouTube video, then actually make one, then spend days freaking out, put out countless warnings that it will be shitty, upload it and try to avoid advertising it altogether. LOL.

Well fudge that shizz! I'm going for gold this time. I even monetized it despite only having 2 channel subscribers (don't worry YouTube aren't stupid enough to actually put ads on it). Just another gentle reminder that I have no idea what I'm doing and you will be completely underwhelmed.

The video itself is all about my recent Chi Chi Haul, which you can also check out in this post. Here it is, in all its glory....

Also, if you're super into terribly-produced videos, you may want to check out my other offering, in which my son paints my nails. It's called Zach Paints My Nails! (lol) and you can see that here.

New Rimmel Makeup!

Hi guys! Today I'm writing about the new makeup Rimmel have been releasing lately. Frankly, I can barely keep up with all these new releases! There are some great products here if you need to update your kit or want to expand your collection. I passed on the brand-spanking new Volume Colourist Mascara and Colour Precise Liners, but I'm sure you'll read about those on other beauty blogs! Anyway, let's have a look at some makeup, shall we?

Magnif'Eyes Double Ended Shadow + Liner*
I received the shades Back to Blacks* and Queens of the Bronzed Age*. Back to Blacks (top two swatches in the above photo) comprises a matte black eyeliner on one end and a high pearl gun metal grey shadow with glitter components on the other. I feel like the shadow shade is too dark for smudging over my lids, however I have got a lot of use out of the black liner end. If you're in a hurry, it's a super-easy to glide on the liner to either the top or bottom lashlines and I found the staying power to be quite long. My lower eyeliner has been 'shifting' a bit lately, but I had better results lightly using the black from my Magnif'Eyes Back to Blacks. Queens of the Bronzed Age (bottom two swatches in the above photo) comprises a high pearl gold glitter eyeliner and a medium pearl bronze shadow. I'm getting a ton of use out of the shadow end, as I do love a shimmery bronze eye! I blend this out with my fingertips, and find it's easy to create a statement eye look; I've heard it can be difficult blending this product with a brush, luckily I use my fingers a lot with my eye makeup! The other shades are  Kissed by a Rose Gold (brown liner/rose gold shadow) and Dark Side of Blue (cobalt blue liner/dark grey shadow). I must say I'm intrigued with the Dark Side of Blue and will be checking out the fun-looking cobalt blue baby in-store!

In April, Rimmel released #InstaFlawless, their new perfecting, radiant skin tint and the Kate Moss Sculpting Palette which is a highlight, contour and blush all in one. They also released a Lip Conditioning Balm by Kate SPF15, but I didn't opt-in for it and keep forgetting to check it out instore!

#InstaFlawless*
In a sign of the times, Rimmel have hashtagged a product name with #InstaFlawless. This SPF15 product is described as a perfecting, radiant skin tint, that provides a natural looking glow, primes, perfects and gives 24 hour moisturisation. I was sent the shade Light Medium, which at first seemed a little dark for my pale-arse face colouring, but with continued use, I actually don't think it's too bad colour-wise. This product immediately reminds me of my Garnier BB Cream. I love that it can be worn alone as a skin perfector, or under foundation if you're after a fuller coverage. I've been wearing it for a natural, barely-there look on the weekends, and if I'm super-rushed on a weekday morning, I'll smooth some on to even out my skin tone and skip the foundation. I must say I don't really bother with using this under a base, luckily my skin is clear at the moment, so I can get away with #InstaFlawless by itself!

Kate Sculpting Palette*
I adore the rose gold packaging; it's really pretty to look at but exceptionally difficult to photograph! I received this palette in the shade Coral Glow*, and it's a lovely, flattering and easy to wear shade for me. There is quite a bit of fall-out and the product is quite powdery, so you have to be a bit careful and remember to tap off the excess before applying. Personally, I prefer the blush and contour powders over the highlight one. I'm not usually a fan of contouring, but I did give it a go with this palette and it was easier than I thought! This Sculpting Palette is a great travel option, as you're getting three products in one, so it's a great way to save on space in your makeup bag. I'll definitely be taking this palette interstate with me next month!

April Favourites!

Time to talk about the products I absolutely loved in April! These are the special beauty finds I've been reaching for frequently, because I'm downright enamoured with them and the results they produce. Here we go!

Soap & Glory The Breakfast Scrub
This gives the Natura Siberica Oblepikha and Honey Body Scrub, raved about here, a run for its money in the body scrub stakes, and may have just reached Holy Grail status, along with the aforementioned NS one. I picked this up in Mecca Maxima on my Sydney trip (see the massive Beauty Haul here). It was a Staff Favourite, and it's not hard to see why. The Breakfast Scrub is the perfect consistency. It's thick, so when you grab a handful it ain't slipping off and wasting down the drain. The formula is just right if you're into super-scrubby exfoliators and the smell.... oh my! One word: PANCAKES! This has oat, shea butter, sugar, bananas, almond and honey extracts and a maple scent that has to be smelled to be believed. Highly recommended!

Bioderma Sensibio H2O*
Up until about a month ago, my go-to had been the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water (in the pink bottle). And I thought it was pretty good. Then I was sent this, and honestly Bioderma blows it out of the water! I'd avoided this one because it was dearer, but my gosh is it gentle and super effective. My skin is left soft, clean and feeling comfortable. There's no drying and no need to wipe firmly, as Sensibio H2O is just so good at what it does. I love how this feels; it's a pleasure to use and I can't really see myself going back to the Garnier one after this sample bottle runs out. Recommended!

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette
I don't own too many high end palettes, so it was quite a treat for me to pick this up! I was tossing up between the original, Semi-Sweet and Bon Bons Too Faced palettes, but I'm so happy I decided on this one. This is honestly so wearable on a day-to-day basis and the shades are really pigmented. I don't know why I hesitated dropping $78, because it's worth every cent and I'm getting a lot of use out of it. Also, it smells like chocolate. Winning!

Skin Doctors Beetox
I bought this on sale at Priceline, and I pretty much use it every morning now! Beetox is an anti-ageing bee venom treatment with manuka honey that works to firm, tighten, lift and plump out your skin, making it appear fuller and more youthful. I'd already had great success with other Skin Doctors products, Eyetuck being my favourite, followed by Instant Eyelift and Eyecircle, so I was keen to give this a go. It says to avoid the eye area, however that's where I start applying this (carefully and not too close to the actual eyes!) as under my eyes is the only place I have fine lines. Also, depending on Christ knows what, this area can appear hollow from time to time, and I've found Beetox has really helped to eradicate this annoying problem by plumping it out, giving me a 'normal' instead of 'fresh corpse' look. This product claims to triple the formation of collagen in 7 days and increase cell renewal by 80% in 15 days. I'm not sure if that's accurate, but it's working for me so I'll continue to buy it. Side note: this smells really nice, too!

Natralus Natural Paw Paw Lip Butter*
I was kindly gifted a handful of Natralus Lip Butters at the Bloggers United Adelaide Event, and I'm really glad, because they are quite a find! These are made with organic Australian papaya, contain shea butter and vitamin E and just as importantly, absolutely no parabens or petrochemicals! I've worked my way through the Honey & Vanilla one and now that I've started on the Strawberry, my eight year old son has declared it his new favourite (seyanora Smiggle watermelon lip balm!). I love applying this nourishing formula before bed so I wake up with soft, smooth lips in the morning, and I know I'll be throwing one in my travel bag for my trip interstate next month. Can't wait to give the Coconut lip butter a go, too!

Maybelline Master Graphic Eyeliner
I'm already a huge fan of Maybelline Masterliner (it's my everyday eyeliner), however a drawback is that the rounded tip is not designed for creating on point wings. Cue my magnificent idea to pick up this baby. This looks like a felt tip/magic marker  type pen and has a slanted, pointy end perfect for adding cat's eye flicks to the ends of my top eyeliner! If you have trouble drawing on your wings, I'd highly recommend giving the liquid Master Graphic Eyeliner a go, because it turns a potentially tricky process into a piece of cake. I've cut my eye makeup application time down by a third since incorporating this into my routine, because as soon as I learnt my desired angle, my flicks went on quickly and easily and stayed put throughout the day!

Davroe Volume Senses Shampoo* and Conditioner*
Like the lip butters, I generously received a set of Davroe hair care products at the Bloggers United Adelaide Event. Having such fine (hey, girlfriend!) locks, I made a beeline straight for the volumising products. I've been using the Volume Shampoo (which I've just finished) together with the Volume Conditioner and the results are healthy-looking, soft hair that still has body. I've used so many volume shampoos and conditioners over the years, and although they give my hair volume, they also often strip my hair or leave it squeaky clean, with the intention of creating some grip, like when you spray dry shampoo into your roots and rub it around. This does create volume but it's not very good for your hair. Anyhoo, with these Davroe products, my hair actually looks fuller, but also soft, healthy and swishy. I love this brand, and am keen to try out the rest of the range.

Lush Ayesha Fresh Face Mask
Oh my. I said on Instagram this stinks like a mofo and I wasn't kidding! I guess if I liked the main ingredient, asparagus, I might feel differently. But the thing is, this mask really lifts and firms my skin. You know it must be good if it's in my favourites even though it pongs! I was so surprised after my first use, and now I use this before any event or night out where I want to feel extra confident, because the firming effect makes me appear years younger. My all-time favourite Lush mask (so far!).

Haulin' It: Chi Chi, Benefit Cheekathon + Perfumes!

Oh hey! I thought I'd blog about my latest hauls in one post, since I got all these beauties in the space of two days. I went shopping in the city yesterday, and it didn't escape my attention that Priceline had up to 60% off fragrances. So my first stop of the day was the usually pretty empty Hindley Street store, which I'm sure most people forget about! Perfect. I had a list of ten fragrances I wanted to smell, and was promptly helped with spritzing on tester cards. I finally decided on Calvin Klein Eternity Summer and my old favourite, YSL Paris, although they only had the 30ml. I'm happy with this, because I'd just finished my bottle of Paris so was due for another one!

I've been eyeing off the Chi Chi Spices eyeshadow palette lately, and when I heard Target had a 30% off Chi Chi sale, I knew I had to visit. Apparently there was a big Chi Chi sale at Myer a few weeks ago, but I hadn't watched a million Chi Chi palette Youtube videos at that point, so I wasn't craving it yet! But first, I was in Myer, scoping the GWP offers for the Mother-In-Law, when I spied a $1 Clearance table. I bought the Miss Shop Metallic Body Tattoos just for fun and the gold and silver Chi Chi eye crayons out of curiosity and because I know they'll be fun to play around with. Besides, how can you go wrong for a paltry $3!? I noticed Myer had 20% off Chi Chi, and they had the Spices palette in stock, but I thought I'd get it from Target for 30% off instead.

Of course Target were sold out of the Spices palette! They did have quite a few other Chi Chi palettes though, and I decided to go with the gorgeous Sunkissed one since it was 30% off all Chi Chi products. The more I look at it, the more I fall in love with the array of oh-so-pretty shades! I grabbed an eyeshadow brush while I was there because I don't have many makeup brushes and I'm using the only two eyeshadow ones I have for highlighting my cupid's bow and setting my under eye concealer with powder, instead of their intended use.

Remember when I said I ordered the Benefit Cheekathon in this Mother's Day Gift Guide post? Well my Adore Beauty order arrived, and this awesome value for money cheeky palette is every bit as beautiful as I thought it would be! I used the code offer to get the Benefit samples and the others were the freebies you get with your order (not that I need any more! I'm already doing a Sample Challenge this month!).

The Body Shop VIP Pre-Mother's Day Pamper Night!

Last Tuesday, I attended The Body Shop's Pre-Mother's Day Pamper Night. This was a paid ticket event; tickets were $25 each, but there were only ten spots available for each location across Australia, so you had to be super quick to get one! I thought the price tag was quite reasonable given the fact that each guest was to receive a Goodie Bag valued at just over $100. I jumped at the chance, snapping up a ticket toot sweet!

The hour-long event was informative, fun and a lovely way to spend an evening. I went by myself and was happy to see a couple of other ladies arrive alone, as I thought everyone else would buy two tickets and come with a friend. Having only ten guests meant it was quite an intimate evening, and we were easily able to speak one-on-one with staff throughout the night. We were treated to a glass of champagne on arrival, as The Body Shop staff welcomed us and explained the evening, which was the launch of their new British Rose Body Care Collection. There was also a plate of colourful macarons near the bubbly, but we weren't offered one and from what I could see nobody took one! I'm still trying to work out if they were real or fake ones for decoration. Haha!

We got to spend about 20 minutes at each of the manned stations, and interact and play with the products, which was fun! My first stop was the makeup application station. I wore a full face of makeup on the night (and don't like people doing my makeup anyway!) so I used the opportunity to ask questions about their makeup line and swatch like a mofo. I loved their new Lip & Cheek Stains and the palette was super-pretty. I thought I didn't own much The Body Shop makeup but was shocked to learn I own both of their eyeshadow quads!

Next stop was a personal skincare consultation. I was asked the standard questions about my skincare concerns and instructed to place two little tabs on my forehead and cheek to determine my skin type (normal/combination - interesting, because I used to be oily, then oily/combination, so clearly my skin is getting drier with age). Then the Consultant collected some products from their ranges that would address my skincare concerns (fine lines and breakouts) and ran through them with me whilst trying them out on my hand. Afterwards, my 'treated' hand was so soft and pampered; I could really feel the difference between my two hands. I was given a skincare consultation leaflet with my personalised regime inside, which showed which products would be most suitable for my skin.

Last stop was the pampering station, where the origins of the British Rose Body Care line was explained and we were given a chance to try out all the products from this brand new range. I went to town, spritzing this, dabbing that and rubbing in the other. The fragrance is floral, feminine and lovely; I'm a huge Lush RoseJam fan, so British Rose is right up my alley!

We also received an exclusive shopping offer of 20% off if we bought two or more products. I felt rushed as the night came to a close, and completely forgot to buy my Tea Tree Toner (which I had planned to get, as mine is practically finished)! Instead I bought a Watermelon Lip Balm (love it!) and some bath gloves which I have yet to try. On the plus side, with the discount this only set me back $11 give or take a few cents! I collected my Goodie Bag and off I went. My prediction was that it would contain small versions of the entire British Rose collection, but I was wrong! Check out the contents of the Gift Bag; it's a nice mix of products that I can't wait to try out!
